hub West Scotland Winter Warmer Appeal receives overwhelming response
hub West Scotland has been overwhelmed by the incredible response to their fourth Winter Warmer Appeal on behalf of charity partner PEEK, (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid). PEEK works to improve the life chances of children and young people living in the Glasgow area.
100% of the money raised was used to purchase warm winter clothing for those children that need it right across the city. hub West were overwhelmed by the donations, with over £17,000 being raised, thanks to donations from hub West’s supply chain partners, local companies, and generous individuals. This brings the total value since 2018 to over £77,000.
Iain Marley, CEO of hWS said: “We are committed to making a difference to communities and this is achieved through the projects that we deliver and emphasis that we place on driving the creation of local jobs, training and business opportunities. On top of this it’s great to lead initiatives such as our Winter Warmer Appeal.
Over the past four years we have developed a close working relationship with PEEK and, encouraged by the success of last year’s appeal, we were keen to carry on with this year’s appeal in order to help more children in need of essential items of clothing for winter, especially as this year has been tough for so many families due to the ongoing pandemic.
The response has been fantastic. We are deeply grateful to our supply chain partners and the many other companies and members of the public for their amazing and generous contributions. This kindness will make a huge difference to children and young people in Glasgow.”
Michaela Collins, CEO of PEEK said: “We believe every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the right to basic necessities like warm winter jackets and wellington boots. Having the right clothing makes such a difference to the children we work with, it allows them to enjoy the magic of jumping in puddles and possibly play in the snow. A massive thank you to hub West Scotland and everyone who donated to the appeal. The response is incredible, and we are so pleased together we can help even more children this year.”
hub West Scotland presented the donation to PEEK on Friday 10th December. Alison Thewliss MP for Glasgow Central went along to the presentation and said: “The work the PEEK team do to support children in poverty and hardship is invaluable. The response and donations to this campaign has been extraordinary and highlights the generosity of people who want to play their part to make sure that children are not left feeling the winter bite.”
“We are already facing bitterly cold days and nights, and it’s heartbreaking to know that there are families who are unable to make ends meet, who will struggle to heat their homes, or be able to afford warm winter clothing for their kids.
The handover event was also attended by Councillor Greg Hepburn, SNP Councillor for Calton Ward. Cllr Hepburn said: “Fantastic to attend and support these efforts. These jackets will go towards keeping kids warm this winter – and from watching how happy they were jumping about in puddles; they’re going to be well used!”
