Blairdardie Primary School Hoarding Competition
Blairdardie Primary School is a new three-storey school in Glasgow being built for our client Glasgow City Council by main contractor BAM Construction. The school will accommodate 500 students and is due for completion in spring 2019.
As part of the ongoing engagement with Blairdardie Primary School, BAM Construction launched a Health & Safety poster competition. Five winners were selected and the winning designs were made into signs which featured on the hoarding surrounding the new school promoting Health & Safety on site.
The winners were then asked to work together and create a final design which would be painted onto a selected part of hoarding. The group, with help from Teacher Mr Watson, decided to create a design around ‘Blairdardie’ and what it means to them. This included:
- An image of their new School
- The Blairdardie School logo
- The Forth & Clyde Canal
- A cow (Blairdardie is Gaelic for ‘field of heifers’)
- A Pelican
The winners were invited to the site on Thursday 7th June to take part in a painting day. The project team commissioned a sign writer from Telfer Graphics to guide the pupils with painting and help bring their design to life.
Bruce Dickson, Regional Director at BAM Construction noted, “The design talents of all the pupils has been really excellent and we’re really looking forward to seeing the final results later this month which will brighten up the construction sites as their schools start to take shape behind the scenes.”
Kris Moir, BAM Project Manager on the Blairdardie Primary School Project noted, “We were amazed at the standard of entry from the pupils in the initial competition. They had done some great work. The finalists then came to site and we came up with an overall concept for what we wanted to achieve on the hoarding. We were blown away with the finished article and we are looking at how we can take this to the next level to leave a legacy project to explain to the future generations of pupils the meaning of Blairdardie whilst also highlighting the local biodiversity of their surroundings”
Scott Lennon, hub West Scotland Project Development Manager noted, “We are delighted with the interaction with the school and BAM. The standard of the artwork was exceptional and we are delighted with the final mural.
