Local charities benefit from Hub Community Foundation Building Better Futures Fund
Inspiring Scotland has announced that 10 charities across the country are to benefit from a share of £1.3m from the Building Brighter Futures Fund (BBFF), established by the Hub Community Foundation (HCF). Hub West is delighted that two local charities in its territory were successful in their bids – Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse (FARE) and Possibilities for Each and Every Kid (PEEK).
The £1.3 million has come directly from the funding and construction of community buildings such as schools and health centres being delivered through the £2.7 billion Scotland-wide Hub programme.
In building these community facilities, the Hub programme already supports a wide range of community benefits, with Hub West alone having delivered more than 140 new jobs, 72 apprenticeships/trainee places and over 2,500 work placement days through its projects since 2010.
This new announcement of BBFF funding, with an aim to create long term training and job opportunities for underprivileged young people aged 12-21, is a further example of how successful partnership projects between the public and private sector can not only deliver much needed modern facilities but can help to invest back into communities – on this occasion through established third sector charities.
Iain Marley, Hub West Scotland’s Chief Executive, said:
“The Hub Partnership has invested close to £400m in the West of Scotland to deliver high quality, flexible and inspiring developments and outstanding value for money. We are proud that the programme has made community benefits a key priority and this focus has created a huge range of benefits and opportunities for individuals, local businesses and communities and ensured that the return on this investment is maximised.
“We are thrilled that the £330,000 of funding awarded over three years through the HCF will add to what has already been achieved and make a real difference in local communities.
“FARE (Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse) and PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid) are inspiring organisations that are dedicated to raising aspirations, improving skills and unlocking the potential of children and young people, and encourage active involvement in communities. We are looking forward to supporting these charities as they invest this funding and continue their valuable and important missions.”
Jimmy Wilson, CEO, Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse (FARE) said of the funding:
“We are extremely happy that our application for funding from the Hub Community Foundation’s, Building Brighter Futures Fund has been successful. We will use the funding to develop a schools employability project to connect young people to the world of work via certificated courses employers are looking for.
“All certificates are accredited at SCQF level 5 or 6, which will enhance the young people’s chances of securing employment when they leave school. We are delighted to be partnering up with the Hub Community Foundation for the benefit of some of the most disadvantaged young people in Glasgow.”
Melodie Crumlin, CEO, Possibilities for Each and Every Kid (PEEK) added:
“I am thrilled that PEEK has been successful in securing funding from the Brighter Futures Fund. This grant will enable us to improve learning and employability, raise attainment, ambition and aspirations through providing skills development and pathways to positive destinations for local young people across the North East Glasgow.
“Partnership and collaborative working will underpin this programme and we look forward to working with Hub West Scotland and other ventures sharing learning and best practice whilst enabling positive outcomes for young people.”
